Day 3: Full-Day Visit to Alexandria

After an early breakfast, I set off on a scenic drive to Alexandria, Egypt’s historic Mediterranean port city known for its diverse cultural heritage blending Egyptian, Greek, and Roman influences.

Begin at the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, an extraordinary underground burial complex dating back to the 2nd century AD, showcasing a fascinating fusion of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman artistic styles. Wander through its winding chambers, intricate carvings, and tombs that reflect the city’s rich past.

Then visit Pompey’s Pillar, a towering Roman monument erected to honor Emperor Diocletian, followed by an exploration of the nearby Serapeum ruins, remnants of a temple once dedicated to the deity Serapis.

Enjoy lunch at a well-regarded local restaurant.

Tipping, or “baksheesh,” is a common practice in Egypt and is not usually included in the tour price. It’s customary to tip service providers such as guides, drivers, and hotel staff. A good rule of thumb is to tip based on the level of service provided, typically around 10-15% of the bill or service cost.
